A Mission Trip Minute

This mission trip, unlike what I had expected, was extremely fun and worthwhile. The people who I worked with were funny, nice, hardworking, and all around good people, and there were a lot of times during the day to lay around and talk with them. Not only that, but them being around when you’re working makes it only half as bad, and it isn’t bad in the first place. Some examples of the work we did included: Taking nails out of boards, glazing windows (a little hard at first, but then really easy), painting, scraping paint, cutting boards (with electric saw) and handing stuff. Plus, for the little work that you do, you get a big reward. Some of the reactions of the people whose houses have been fixed are really amazing and heartlifting, and even if you aren’t swayed by that, for almost every project we worked on it meant them getting through the winter or not. Go. You’ll love it.

On the last work day of the trip, I went to a house where a lady needed a screen door handle replaced, her porch coated with sealant, her shutters repainted, a swing scraped and repainted, and her railings scraped and repainted. I put the door handle on with Trevin and Kate, and it wasn’t as easy as it sounds. When we were finished, the lady kept opening and closing the door saying in a southern accent, “This is nice! I can open my door again, oh this is very nice.” We felt like we had done a good thing.

--I loved working on houses. I also liked Mrs. O’Connell’s food. I LOVED THE MISSION TRIP!
