Our mission statement grounds us in who God calls us to be in this place:
|
As a Christian community gathered by the Holy Spirit, our mission is to declare God’s love and grace in Christ and to nurture faith through worship, learning, fellowship and caring for all God has made.
|
As Martin Luther reflected in the Small Catechism, The Holy Spirit "calls, gathers, enlightens and makes holy the whole Christian church on earth and keeps it with Jesus Christ in the one common, true faith." As a Christian community serving the towns of New Canaan, Darien, Milford, Norwalk, North Stamford, Rowayton, Trumbull, Weston, Wilton and wider Fairfield County in Connecticut, as well as Pound Ridge and South Salem, New York, we have been gathered here - in this time and place by the leading of the Spirit.
Christians use words, and point to the Word Made Flesh, Jesus the Christ. "For God so loved the world that he gave his only son, that whoever believes in him may not perish, but have eternal life" (John 3:16). We have been given the words of Scripture and the stories of our lives to share what God has done for us, and for you in Jesus’ name. Christ is present in, with, under and though our lives as we gather in this place, and serve in the world.
Preaching that connects our faith in Christ to daily life, Liturgical worship that opens us to the mystery and promises of God in song, prayer and sacraments; lively Bible studies and growing opportunities for learning; and a sense of community that is friendly, supporting and welcoming of others deepens both our faith and relationships.
- Our Historic Building, built in 1833, is a wonderful asset that draws us into rich congregational singing, as we are supported by youth, adult, and chime choirs, our organ, piano and many musical instruments played by our members in praise of God.
- Our ministry of learning reaches out to all ages as God’s story becomes our own.
- A weekly fellowship hour and monthly events connect us to better "play" together so that we may better "pray" together.
We are active in many service opportunities, ranging from our congregation’s efforts to the many service organization in which our people are actively engaged. God has enriched all of us with gifts, talents, and treasures, and calls us to use them for the sake of others.
